Worcestershire is the plaice to be for fish and chips

02/02/18

Two businesses in Worcestershire have won awards at the National Fish and Chip Awards 2018. The 30th anniversary event, held at the Royal Lancaster in London and organised by the Seafish industry body, recognises and rewards businesses producing the best fish and chips across the UK.

In Worcestershire, Starchip Enterprise scooped the award for Best Mobile Fish and Chip Operator, and The Golden Carp Chippy in Redditch won a regional award for Midlands Fish and Chip Shop of The Year.

The Starchip Enterprise said: "We would like to say a heartfelt thanks to all of our customers who use us on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Also those who have booked us for their special occasion and all of those who have supported us. We honestly couldn't do what we do without you all."

The Starchip Enterprise operates across the Vale of Evesham and is a family business which invests in specially designed, top-of-the-range, dedicated mobile fish and chip vans which are community driven so that families in village communities get to enjoy freshly cooked fish and chips right outside their doorsteps. The business also offers a franchise and is looking for applications from potential franchisees to set up and launch their very own Starchips with full support and training.

The Golden Carp Chippy in Redditch said: "The Golden Carp Chippy team is proud that we have achieved this prestigious award. We underwent a rigorous judging inspection including having our frying skills put to the test. We were assessed on menu development, innovation, sustainable sourcing policies, food handling, food preparation and storage and it's a testament to all the hard work and dedication of our team."

The awards aim to support the wider fish frying trade and seek to reward individual excellence in a range of different award categories, raise quality standards, provide a benchmark for businesses to aspire to and encourage the continued consumption of fish and chips amongst both the UK population and visitors to the UK.
