Kidderminster Carnival was always a crowd pleaser. For 20 years the parade snaked its way through the heart of Kidderminster before ending up in Brinton's Park where everyone would gather to celebrate, eat and drink. However, in January this year, the committee decided to call time on the carnival which had lost its spark and large numbers of supporters with it.
Many thought this was the final nail in the coffin of the Carnival until one Kidderminster company decided to create a new and improved event that would benefit the local Wyre Forest community. Step forward Dave Griffin who runs his own inflatable company – Quads n Castles in Kidderminster.
Dave created the Brinton's Bash and set about inviting local companies to the event. Holding the event at Brinton's Park – Dave was inundated with requests from stall holders and soon found that his original 50 places had been snapped up with a reserve list soon filling up.
So what will happen in the future? Dave is pushing ahead and already planning for next year's event.
Dave said: "For our event we want to bring the community together. There just isn’t anything on the same scale so it's nice to be a part of something that promotes community. We emphasise the need for local producers and businesses to be a part of the event. Last year's event proves that the community were thrilled to have some sort of event back on the calendar. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Saturday 3 June 2017."
Next year Dave and the team would like to build on the event and make it bigger. Profits from last year's event were donated to Wyre Forest Night Stop, a charity that works with vulnerable, homeless young people – which takes them in for the night.
Dave and the team are already looking for sponsors and volunteers to help make 2017 bigger and better. If you would like to help please visit the Facebook Page, Brinton's Bash. Or alternatively you can contact Dave via email firstname.lastname@example.org or mobile 07799063021.
