Ever thought you could never reach your perfect job? Or it's too late for you to do something you believe in? Well Rosalind Brotherton, proves you can achieve anything if you just believe in yourself and life changes are possible!
A single mother-of-three, who started as a school dinner lady, is living proof that dreams come true now that she is headmistress of one of our local schools.
Following her marriage break-down, Rosalind took on a dinner lady role, and later also as a learning assistant, at Swan Lane First School, Evesham. Wanting more for herself and her children she also knew she now wanted to work with children, so studied part time for a History Open University degree.
Within just nine years, at 49, she was running a school of her own.
After graduating in 2005, Rosalind re-joined Swan Lane, as a trainee teacher, before moving schools where she became deputy head. She later clinched the top job at Flyford Flavell First School and has been head teacher there since last September.
Never career minded, Rosalind didn't expect to be where she was when she started her journey. But being in school the higher she went the more she felt she could make things better for children, sort things out or influence more.
'I didn't have a good education and didn't enjoy school! There weren't many opportunities for me when I left school, but I think it's helped me to make sure children love and enjoy learning.' She says; 'As a head I have to make sure that I don't shut myself away and the children know I am always available.'
Rosalind's style clearly works as since joining Flyford Flavell, an Ofsted inspection rated the school, as 'good', compared to 'needs improvement' two years ago.
With her 3 sons all now in their 20's, she loves nothing more than walking with her pooch; Freddie, who incidentally has regular days 'in the head's office' which obviously proves popular with the children - as did all the media attention at school last week when Rosalind hit the national news!
She adds: 'The beauty of Worcestershire is that we have some great places to walk and visit. I love taking Freddie for walks along the banks of the River Avon in Pershore and also the River Severn in Worcester we love both!'
Has Rosalind given you inspiration? Believe and you can do it!
